2005 Mistreatment of Older People in Aboriginal Communities ReportAn Investigation into Elder Abuse in Aboriginal Communities

Produced by the Office of the Public Advocate. In 2004 the Government’s Active Ageing Strategy allocated funding to the Office of the Public Advocate to work with Aboriginal people to identify and develop local responses to elder abuse and the mistreatment and neglect of older people in Aboriginal communities. Additional funding was also received from the Aboriginal Policy and Services Directorate of the Department of Justice. Two Aboriginal Project Officers, Sharon Bedford and Maxine Chi, were employed to conduct research and consult with Aboriginal people regarding elder abuse, mistreatment and neglect in Aboriginal communities.
